Emotional Breakdown and How To Mindfully Deal With It

An emotional breakdown is a period of intense mental stress when the person feels too weak and overwhelmed to function in daily life.

Here are some things that may trigger your emotional breakdown:

  • Poor sleep schedule
  • Burnout
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Low self-esteem
  • Financial issues
  • Anger management issues
  • Unsupportive family members or friends
  • Feeling of loneliness
It’s very likely to have trouble focusing or sleeping, extreme fatigue, shifts in appetite and extreme mood swings.

Responding to a Nervous Breakdown

Do not feel isolated if you feel crushed under the weight of workload or just life itself. Treatment varies from person to person. We have listed some common ways to respond to a breakdown:

  • Lifestyle Changes: In order to deal with fatigue, you need to de-stress and wind down. This can include cutting down screen time, adding nutritious food to your diet, retail therapy, taking a walk, exercising, etc.
  • Fix Sleep Schedule: It is a well-known fact that sleeping for 6-8 hours is healthy. Work towards having a sleep schedule that allows you to rest for enough hours so you don’t wake up feeling awful the next day.
  • Relax: Mindful meditation, breathing techniques and yoga are great ways to reduce stress and release dopamine into your body.
  • Share with a friend: If you are blessed with good listeners, please do share your thoughts with them.
Lastly, seek guidance from a professional mental health counselor. You can also call our hotline service, Vent from 6pm - 6am.*
